Desert Breeze Lake is a 4-acre water with a 12-foot maximum depth in Desert Breeze Park, west Chandler. It has been in the Community Fishing Program since 1990, according to AZGFD, and Chandler runs it as one of two city fishing lakes along with the lake at Veterans Oasis Park.
The setting is a full-service family park rather than a quiet fishing hole. Walking paths wind around the lake, the Chandler Public Library places a new book along a Storywalk route around the water each month, and the Desert Breeze Express railroad carries riders around the park, past the lake, on weekends from Labor Day to Memorial Day. A Hummingbird Habitat garden of native plants is part of the park as well. For a parent with one child who wants to fish and another who wants to ride a train, it is hard to beat.
Chandler says its lakes are stocked about every two weeks from mid-September through June, and it lists rainbow trout, bluegill, redear and hybrid sunfish and largemouth bass among the catch, alongside the stocked channel catfish. All fishing is from the bank; the city does not allow canoes, kayaks or other personal watercraft on its lakes.

Desert Breeze Park is at 660 N. Desert Breeze Blvd. East in Chandler and is open 6 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. The city lists restrooms, shade ramadas, reservable pavilions, two playgrounds, a seasonal splash pad, tennis courts, sand volleyball, baseball and softball fields and multi-use fields. Pavilions can be reserved through Chandler's park rentals or by calling 480-782-2727.
Shoreline access is the whole story here, since watercraft are not allowed. The walking paths around the lake make it easy to move between spots, and the Storywalk pages give younger kids something to do between bites. Chandler stresses that licenses are not sold at its lakes, so buy them before you arrive.
Catfish stockings start back up after the summer pause and continue on roughly a two-week cycle into early November. Evenings, when the walking paths quiet down, are a good time to soak bait.
Trout season. Stocked rainbows of 10 to 13 inches are the main target, and the railroad runs on weekends through this stretch, which makes for a busy park on Saturdays.
Catfish return, and spring is when AZGFD makes its annual sunfish stocking. Warming water also wakes up the resident bluegill, redear and bass that Chandler lists for the lake.
Stocking stops for the summer. The park stays open until 10:30 p.m., and the hours after dark are the most comfortable for summer catfishing on holdover fish.
